The Children You Need

God gives you the children you need. My adult daughter’s sensitivity stretches me. Everything seemingly makes her cry or emotional. Millennials are all about emotion, Gen X is not unfortunately. As her mother I have had to take the time to sit back and understand things unfamiliar to me. I didn’t always do that because I didn’t understand it and thought it was ridiculous. See I wasn’t allowed to have emotions, my tears and concerns went unheard so I learned not to cry. Cry didn’t result in sympathy, it resulted in more crying.

So now I’m in a place that I have to go back to that place and grow so I can relate. I have to ask myself constantly, what would I want if I were her age and in this place? It is a struggle because it is unfamiliar.. but I’m so thankful that God is teaching me everyday. Even when I REALLY can’t relate I just shut up and listen. Sometimes they just need us to hear. God gives us children that will work something out of us that shouldn’t have been there.. you may not have the children you imagined but you have the children you NEED.
